Daylesford Speedway members have been out and about showcasing the club across the state and the country over this Christmas period.
Firstly we had Wangaratta with the two Kakoschke boys running their second race meeting in Sports Sedans.
Bailey had a bit of a slow start, he had a big hit of the wall in his first heat, first lap at Wangaratta a fortnight ago so took a bit to get into it. He ran last in first heat then 6th and 5th. Reece ran 4th in all three heats. Reece started out of 12 and Bailey out of 18 for final out of 24. Reece got up to about 7th and then got a flat and Bailey finished around 7th but there were only about 10 that finished.
The two boys are doing really well in the Sports Sedan fields especially considering they are new to the division and turning around their racing direction for the first time.
Well done.
Arthur Hutchinson has had a few VSC 1200 shows this season but Saturday night saw him in a new car in the VSC Open Juniors in the Rhys Meakins Mitsubishi lancer. Arthur took to the front wheel drive car like a duck to water. Comfortable from lap one and absolutely loved the car. He had great results in the heats with a 7 after being spun in the first heat. Then a 2nd in his second heat and absolutely blitzed the field in his last heat with a heat win.
This put him off outside pole in the final.
It was looking to be a great race with Arthur catching the leader holding second. Unfortunately the final was declared after an incident and Arthur was awarded second place for the final. Arthur will have one more run in the car in the coming week and then head to South Australia to contest the SSA Junior National Title.
Up in Queensland, Rhys Meakins has also been flying the Daylesford flag with a few meetings in the Sunshine State. Running recently at Toowoomba, Gympie and Kingaroy (State Title), Rhys was last night at Bundaberg. He had fantastic heats with a 3rd, 2nd and a 1st in his heats. On points he was equal 2nd and ended up 3rd on the grid after a coin toss.
In the final Rhys had a brilliant start and ended up in 1st. After a yellow he had to do it all again. Rhys ended up leading the beginning of the race. A small mishap saw him go back to 4th and fight his way back up to second place at the chequered flag.
Rhys is At Gympie tonight in the Street Stock where he had 3 thirds in his heats. This put him out of position 4 in the final. After a brilliant start he was in front by lap 2 where he held the lead until lap 17 where he hit a rut and got a RHR flat tyre. This was the end of his final.
Rhys will be racing his DDA85 Modified at Toowoomba over new year for their famous TBar event.
Dean Pederson recently took the chequered flag at Portland in his Standard Saloon.
Well done to all of our club members who have done us proud this week.
