Daylesford - Victoria's Oldest Speedway Track

Daylesford Speedway owes its beginnings to two diggers on their return from World War 2 or so the story goes!

Legend has it that these two diggers, whose names have been lost in time, in the 1950s established the track with links to the local RSL, links that still exist today.

Daylesford Speedway now holds the title of the oldest dirt track in Victoria.

Racing in the early days are shown in a series of black and white photos of names that are now dimly remembered.

In 1987, the Basin Recreation Reserve where the track is located was reserved as Crown Land for Pubilc Recreation and has been placed in the local council hands to manage.

Since that time the Daylesford Speedway Drivers Association has leased the land to continue to provide quality family friendly racing events for the whole community.

Today the venue is run by dedicated volunteers whose mission is to continue the traditions began over 60 years ago

Racing returns to the Basin for 2024/2025 Season.
