Two days of race action at Daylesford concluded on Sunday with some big action for fans in attendance when the Crash and Bash Association and the Daylesford Speedway Club’s Roz Moynihan Memorial headlined the show and the big winners for the weekend were Jarrod Hughes in the Crash and Bash Opens, Rickylee Basten in the Roz Moynihan Memorial for Daylesford Ladies and Lea Judd in the Crash and Bash Ladies events.
Whilst rain interfered with events on Saturday, Sunday was a completely different day with the weather playing nicely for the dirt track Speedway heroes.
Spectators on day one were relieved to hear that Steve Warlond who was taken to hospital after a rollover in the Daylesford Modifieds, has no serious injury concerns and they were treated to the first run for the 1200cc Junior Sedans and club member Arthur Hutchinson looked good with two wins from two races before rain closed out the day.
On the Sunday racing the Crash and Bash Opens competed in four qualifying races with two per competitor and wins went to Grant Attewell, Jason Judd, Hughes and Jason Judd a second time. With Crashing allowed, Murray Lewis sustained big damage early in the day whilst Daniel Williams rolled his Valiant when Jackson Basten stuck his Valiant underneath it down the back straight.
In the feature event Jason Judd looked strong in the lead, however punting your fellow racers out of the way is allowed and Hughes did this and went to the front of the field. Brad Warren held the lead ever so briefly before he found himself involved in a tangle and Judd was carving up the field making his way back forward. After thirty laps, Hughes took his first feature victory in the class with Judd second, Anthony Sgroi in third, Daniel Litten another Daylesford member in fourth and Grant Reynolds fifth.
Daylesford Ladies Sedan racers competed in the Roz Moynihan Memorial race with a race for experienced competitors and one for novice drivers whom have never competed or only ever competed in the novice race previously. Winning two races on Saturday and another two on Sunday, Rickylee Basten was just too good in leading from start to finish in the Memorial to defeat Rachel Robinson, Jane Laidler, Ebony Trainor and Renah Pollard. Whilst in the novice race, Kate Daly defeated Shelly White.
Crash and Bash Ladies competed in two heats before their final with Lea Judd and then Sarah Price taking a win each before Judd was sensational in the feature race with a tremendous victory over Sarah Price. Try as Price did to bridge the gap and get close enough to spin the leader, Judd was always a step ahead. Lea Judd the winner from Price, Stephy Grace, Kellie Latham and Marlena Argent.
Daylesford Modified action on Saturday finished with two wins to Jayden Humphrey whom at that stage looked well on his way to a weekend’s victory. However come Saturday he didn’t fire a shot in the popular little Cortina he competes in and Ryan Daly and Jaidyn Dredge took wins instead. Dredge then went on to win the final ahead of Jackson Basten and amazingly due to one mechanical issue or another, nobody else finished.
Brad McClure returned to compete in Street Stocks after winning a fortnight ago and this time he started the feature event from the second row after Des Robinson and Glen McCoubrie qualified at the front after accumulating points on Saturday. McClure was chased hard through the feature race by Jayden Blomeley however made it two straight wins in the Basin with Travis Wilkons third ahead of Robinson and McCoubrie.
In Daylesford Junior Sedan action a tremendous result for the three boys that finished. Jhett Cruize had been knocking on the door of a potential victory after battles with the Kakoschke boys Reece and Bailey this season, he finally got the win Sunday. He was ahead of Bailey Kakoschke in the feature event when the latter had to pull out of the running and this left Cruize on his one heading to a win. Behind him Blair Botheras and Blaize Majok-Edwards had a great battle and it wasn’t until the last couple laps it was clear that Botheras would finish ahead out of the two. Both boys earned their first ever Speedway trophies when they finished second and third behind Cruize.
Earlier, rookie race driver Harry Dunn thought he was a stunt driver in the Dukes of Hazard television remake when he launched over the embankment at turn four and into the Daylesford Speedway pits.
After another successful race day Daylesford Speedway will be back at Easter, for more details follow the volunteer ran club on social media platforms.
